Charity Cycle for Laura Lynn

On Tuesday 5th September, I’m taking on a 3 day charity cycle with 40 work colleagues at Microsoft in support of Laura Lynn Children’s Hospice. Training began in June with many first time cyclists but it’s great to see everyone out and ready. We have a big fundraising target of €50,000. Please donate online here – your support is appreciated.

Challenge

I’m looking forward to the challenge – not really the physical challenge (400km over 3 days) – but more so the team challenge of helping a team of many newbies achieve something they’ve never done before. Many probably didn’t imagine it possible when we started training on bikes a few months ago. I hope everyone develops a love for the joys of cycling. I hope they keep the bike and get out with friends and family once this event is done.

Teamwork

50 individuals (39 cyclists and 11 crew) from a variety of groups across Microsoft in Ireland. This challenge shows the value of a team and working together – not just can we raise more money but we can put on an event which just wouldn’t be possible with a smaller team. You need people to plan the route (on Strava and route books), you need support vehicles (2 vans, 2 cars and a motorbike), you need accommodation and food stops sorted, you need PR and comms, you need to get people training, you need to organise fundraising events (bucket shaking, jersey auctions, online donations, sponsorship cards).

And you need people to donate their time – plus our company, Microsoft, is generous in giving us volunteer days to help charities as well as matching funds for some of our fundraising.

My reason to get involved

Life is precious. Children are our future and I’ve seen the positive work they do at Laura Lynn. I want to ensure they can do even more, with our collective support. This team effort will make a big difference. Microsoft is a great company to support these efforts: with volunteer days, matching funds and team support.

Charity

Laura Lynn is our chosen charity and we set ourselves a fundraising target of €50,000 that will go directly to Laura Lynn. We feel that this is a great local charity which does amazing work with children and their families.
